src=\"https:\/\/ibexaviation.com\/page-show\/aviation-meteorology\/m28-sigmet-airmet-gamet-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>SIGMET<\/strong> (Significant Meteorological Information) contains weather information significant to the safety of aircraft in flight.<\/li>\n<li>In India, SIGMET is issued by the <strong>Meteorological Watch Office (MWO)<\/strong> and transmitted to aircraft through the <strong>Flight Information Centre (FIC)<\/strong> or <strong>Area Control Centre (ACC)<\/strong> at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.<\/li>\n<li>SIGMET is issued every <strong>3 hours<\/strong> starting from <strong>0100 UTC<\/strong> and is valid for a maximum of <strong>4 hours<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>For <strong>Volcanic Ash<\/strong> and <strong>Tropical Cyclones<\/strong>, validity may extend up to <strong>12 hours<\/strong>, with updates issued every <strong>6 hours<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>SIGMET SST<\/strong> is a SIGMET issued specifically for supersonic flights.<\/li>\n<li><strong>AIRMET<\/strong> is a SIGMET intended for low-level flights.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GAMET<\/strong> is an area forecast issued for low-level flights and exchanged between neighbouring Flight Information Regions (FIRs).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Conditions for Significant Meteorological Information (SIGMET)<\/h3>\n<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" phenomena:<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Thunderstorms:\n<ul>\n<li>OBSC TS \u2013 Obscured Thunderstorm<\/li>\n<li>FRQ TS \u2013 Frequent Thunderstorms<\/li>\n<li>EMBD TS \u2013 Embedded Thunderstorms<\/li>\n<li>SQL TS \u2013 Squall Line Thunderstorms<\/li>\n<li>TSGR \u2013 Thunderstorms with Hail<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Tropical Cyclones with sustained winds greater than <strong>34 knots<\/strong> for at least <strong>10 minutes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Severe turbulence caused by strong winds or rotor clouds.<\/li>\n<li>Severe icing outside convective clouds or due to freezing rain.<\/li>\n<li>Severe mountain waves with updrafts exceeding <strong>3 m\/s<\/strong> accompanied by severe turbulence.<\/li>\n<li>Heavy dust storms or sandstorms.<\/li>\n<li>Volcanic ash.<\/li>\n<li>Radioactive cloud.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>SIGMET Format<\/h3>\n<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" number (e.g., <strong>VABB SIGMET 5<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>Date, time and validity period in UTC (e.g., <strong>VALID 271215\/271600<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>Location of the issuing Meteorological Watch Office (MWO).<\/li>\n<li>Name of the Flight Information Region (FIR) or Control Area.<\/li>\n<li>Weather phenomenon responsible for the SIGMET (e.g., <strong>SEV TURB<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>Whether the phenomenon is <strong>Observed (OBS)<\/strong> or <strong>Forecast (FCST)<\/strong>, together with the observation or forecast time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>SIGMET Position and Movement<\/h3>\n<p>
