{"id":15858,"date":"2026-06-13T05:31:28","date_gmt":"2026-06-13T00:01:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ibexaviation.com\/pilot-training\/?p=15858"},"modified":"2026-07-26T10:55:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T05:25:21","slug":"tropical-storm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ibexaviation.com\/pilot-training\/tropical-storm\/","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Storm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ibexaviation.com\/page-show\/aviation-meteorology\/m24-tropical-storm-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<h3>Tropical Revolving Storm (TRS)<\/h3>\n<h3>Tropical Revolving Storm<\/h3>\n<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ibexaviation.com\/page-show\/aviation-meteorology\/m24-tropical-storm-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tropical Revolving Storms (TRS) occur in tropical regions.<\/li>\n<li>Depending on the region, they are known as <strong>cyclones<\/strong>, <strong>hurricanes<\/strong>, or <strong>typhoons<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Wind speeds exceed <strong>65 knots<\/strong> in a TRS.<\/li>\n<li>A TRS may extend over an area with a diameter ranging from <strong>300 to 1500 km<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Conditions for Formation of TRS<\/h3>\n<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ibexaviation.com\/page-show\/aviation-meteorology\/m24-tropical-storm-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>TRS consists of clusters of <strong>Cumulonimbus (CB)<\/strong> cells over the eastern side of oceanic regions.<\/li>\n<li>These storms draw warm, moist air from the sea, allowing clouds to build up to the tropopause.<\/li>\n<li>A Tropical Revolving Storm forms over oceans when the following conditions are met:<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Latitude between <strong>5\u00b0 and 25\u00b0<\/strong> north or south of the Equator.<\/li>\n<li>Sea surface temperature of at least <strong>26\u00b0C<\/strong> to a depth of approximately <strong>300 feet (90 m)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Very little vertical wind shear, preventing the storm from being torn apart.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Near the Indian subcontinent, TRS commonly forms over the <strong>Bay of Bengal<\/strong> because of its high sea surface temperatures, often affecting South India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Stages and Movement of TRS<\/h3>\n<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ibexaviation.com\/page-show\/aviation-meteorology\/m24-tropical-storm-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tropical storms initially develop as a <strong>Tropical Depression<\/strong> before intensifying into a <strong>Tropical Storm<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>With continued strengthening, they may develop into <strong>Cyclones<\/strong> or <strong>Hurricanes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>TRS generally moves westward over warm ocean waters while gaining strength from the continuous supply of moisture.<\/li>\n<li>The storm continues to intensify over the ocean before crossing the coastline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Parts of a Tropical Revolving Storm<\/h3>\n<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ibexaviation.com\/page-show\/aviation-meteorology\/m24-tropical-storm-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Eye:<\/strong> The center of the storm, typically extending <strong>20\u201350 km<\/strong> in radius, containing the area of lowest pressure.<\/li>\n<li>The eye is generally cloud-free and experiences calm winds.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eyewall:<\/strong> The ring of clouds surrounding the eye.<\/li>\n<li>The eyewall consists of multiple layers of Cumulonimbus clouds and contains the highest wind speeds.<\/li>\n<li>The eyewall is the most destructive part of a Tropical Revolving Storm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Aviation Hazards of TRS<\/h3>\n<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ibexaviation.com\/page-show\/aviation-meteorology\/m24-tropical-storm-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Aviation hazards associated with a TRS include severe turbulence, hail, and multiple thunderstorms.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tornadoes<\/strong> are intense rotating storms that may be associated with severe thunderstorm activity.<\/li>\n<li>Tornadoes have narrow updrafts and wind speeds that can reach <strong>200 knots<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>They are short-lived and are closely associated with Cumulonimbus cloud activity.<\/li>\n<li>Tornadoes commonly develop during spring and early summer when surface temperatures are high.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Revolving Storm (TRS) Tropical Revolving Storm Tropical Revolving Storms (TRS) occur in tropical regions.
